Saying that we travel a lot is an understatement. When you have multiple productions in different countries across the world and events in different states, sitting behind the computer all day isn’t always an option. At Tribe Alive, we like to be on the ground. We enjoy hopping on an airplanes (even if their movie selection is subpar) and building community with the artisans who make each collection possible.  Computer work is important and essential to run our business; however, meeting artisans, tasting new foods and learning new stories is crucial.  All of this being said, we are aware that traveling can be a stress on your body and mind, so we always make sure our essential oils are safely packed in our bags. We honesty rely on our founder to pack her essential oils because she is what we call “the crazy oil lady”.  The essential oils that are always packed in our weekenders are doTERRA’s Lavender, On Guard, Digest Zen, Peppermint and Frankincense.  (We use other essential oil brands. doTERRA just happens to be one of our favorites.)

  1. Lavender: T.O.E.O.Y.E.N. (The Only Essential Oil You’ll Ever Need) Yea, we thought the acronym would look a little better than that, but at least the words are true.  Lavender is one of the most widely used and most versatile essential oils.  We use lavender for everything especially when we travel. Are you stressed? Not a problem. Rub a few drops of lavender on the bottoms of your feet and back of your neck.  Tired from traveling? Lavender will help you sleep. Just rub in your hands and inhale. Some of us have been known to rub lavender on our extremely and obscenely swollen ankles when we step off an airplane. If you want to know more ways to use lavender, mindbodygreen has a great round up.
  2. On Guard: If not properly taken care of, our immune systems can become fragile. Exercise and healthy, whole food obviously boost your immune system, but we like to add extra love with On Guard. When we travel across the world, we put our immune systems in vulnerable situations because our bodies haven’t the time to build immunities to fight foreign toxins, etc. That doesn’t stop us, though. Life is too short. On Guard is a mixture of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark/Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils. (Just imagine the heavenly smell. It’s like a dose of fall/winter in a little bottle.) This heavenly oil protects against environmental threats, supports a healthy immune system, promotes healthy circulation and supports the body’s natural antioxident defenses.essential oils, wellness, travel, health
  3.  Digest Zen: This miracle oil was our life saver in India.  It basically saves our stomachs everyday. Digest Zen aids in digestion and helps soothe upset stomachs. Sometimes our stomachs need a little boost. We also tend to forget that our stomachs are sensitive.  We enjoyed a heaping amount of delicious spices and unique flavors in India, and our stomachs didn’t quite know what to do.  Each one of us would ingest a few drops of Digest Zen or rub it on our stomachs, and the relief that we felt after was like a deep breath of fresh air. Digest Zen is a mixture of ginger rhizome/root, peppermint plant, caraway seed, coriander seed, anise seed, tarragon plant, and fennel seed essential oils.  essential oils, wellness, health, travel
  4. Peppermint: Who doesn’t love peppermint? The smell of peppermint reminds us of the holiday season. We also love the way peppermint combats our monster breath when we are in a meeting. (It is what it is.) Like Digest Zen, peppermint essential oil aids with digestion.  Peppermint also supports respiratory health. For us, peppermint helps alleviate headaches. Ingest peppermint for digestion, inhale for respiratory health, and rub on temples to fight that mean headache.
  5. Frankincense: Taking it’s place as the king/queen of essential oils, frankincense basically does it all. (We are going to be bold and say that lavender sits on the right hand of frankincense.) Frankincense is pricey, but the benefits are priceless. Historically, Frankincense was used in religious ceremonies by the Babylonians and the Assyrians and for beauty benefits by the Egyptians.  The precious oil soothes and rejuvenates the skin and supports healthy cellular function. One of our wonderful Tribe members decided to wax their non-existent mustache for kicks and giggle, and left her skin irritated and red. She rubbed frankincense on the effected areas and her irritation cleared. Believe us. It’s worth the investment.

We encourage you to find oils that you love.  If you decide to use essential oils in a topical fashion, be sure to dilute with coconut oil if you have sensitive skin. Essential oils are not a cure-all but are great natural supplements that we love. Always research products before you dive in!
